Portland Rose Festival Dragonboat Race

June 12-13, 2010
Tom McCall Waterfront Park
Portland, OR

Race results: Two strong first-place finishes on Saturday rocketed Stumptown into the top bracket on Sunday for the first time in the team's history! A good time in the quarter-final round on Sunday earned us a spot in the semi-finals. Excited to be the underdog in the race, we paddled our hearts out but were foiled in our quest for the final by a 20 second penalty as the result of a missed flag. Still, the sun was shining, everyone turned in a great performance, and we are thrilled to start off the season with such a strong finish - top 8! Now on to Kent! Click here for the complete Mixed Division bracket results. (Pictures and a more detailed recap to come.)

Salem Worldbeat Festival Dragonboat Race

June 27, 2010
Riverfront Park
Salem, OR
Race organizer: n/a
Race fee: n/a

This one day event held in downtown Salem Oregon is one of the newer events held in the region. It's a fairly casual event using the 616 boats, with mostly local teams participating. With a short-ish race course, a limit of three heats in one day, it's a fun and easy race, especially for first time paddlers. And because it's part of the Worldbeat Festival, the venue offers lots of great food and entertainment between heats. ***We have dropped this race for this year. However, we understand that there are several other teams looking for crew members for this race. If you are interested in guest paddling for one of them, please contact Ayla Montgomery at ayla_paddles@yahoo.com***

Kent Cornucopia Dragonboat Races

July 10, 2010
Lake Meridian
Kent, WA
Race organizer: Bryan and Betsy Robertson
Race fee: $22.50 (subject to change)

Another one day event, this time in Kent (near Tacoma). This event uses BuK boats, which are similar to Portland's 616 boats. It's a fun and friendly race held on a lake without a lot of current or powerboat wakes to contend with, making the 500 meter , four boat heats a snap - you'll get to the finish line and think, "I could do another one of those!" The race site includes a swimming/wading area and playground, making it a very family-friendly venue. NOW ACCEPTING REGISTRATIONS!

Victoria Dragonboat Festival

August 14-15, 2010
Inner Harbour
Victoria, BC Canada
Race organizers: Katie Tanner and Holly Wilkalis
Race fee: $68 (subject to change)

One of our very favorite races of the year, we always have a blast at this two day race held in beautiful downtown Victoria. Another 500 meter course, but this time we race in six boat heats, with the occasional on-the-water break to allow for ferry and seaplane traffic. With 90 teams from all over the region competing, it's a great race as well as a good chance to meet up with paddlers from many different teams, and hang out with our Canadian counterparts, eh? Portland Dragonboat Festival

September 11-12, 2010
Tom McCall Waterfront Park
Portland, OR
Race organizer: Nattie Blue and Linda Kiehl
Race fee: $32.50 (subject to change)

Portland's "other" dragonboat race, this event bounced around to a couple of different venues before finding a home right back at Waterfront Park. Though this event uses the same 500 meter race course as the Rose Festival Races held in June, these races are run in the faster 616 boats. It's a fun race that's quickly become a Stumptown tradition, and a great way to wrap up the season.
